This hot pepper has a heat similar to that of a habanero (50,000-100,000 SHU). The fruits will have a beautiful red and yellow or red and orange stripe pattern. The flavor is a lovely tropical citrus. These peppers do require a long time to ripen 6-8 weeks is not uncommon so you may want to plant these in a large container so you can take it inside if we get a early frost. They can be eaten while green and we have read they are still tasty unripe.
Planting/Harvesting Notes
- Plant after all danger of frost has passed
- Plant in full sun and well draining soil
- Space plants 18 to 24 inches apart
Seed Saving
To save seed, allow the pepper to turn red on the plant, then harvest, cut the pepper, scrape out the seeds and dry on a flat surface such as a screen, paper plate or baking sheet. Allow to dry for 1-2 weeks and then store in a paper envelope.
