Peppermint is a cross between watermint and spearmint. It is used in cosmetics, teas, soaps, mouthwash and confectionery treats. The leaves can be used fresh or dried as a flavoring for teas or cold beverages. The herb is popular all over the world and can even be used to settle the stomach and aid digestion.
Planting/Harvesting Notes
Mint will spread aggressively. If you don’t wish for this to happen, it is best to plant in a large container or raised bed. It can be used as an excellent ground cover in a partly shaded to full sun area. The plant will produce more essential oils in full sun. Be sure to plant in a moist area or be sure to mulch your soil to retain moisture. Mint does not like to be dried out and can often be found near streams or rivers.
