Fast growing edible annual herb. You can use this herb for teas and the bees. Pollinators love this plant! The herb has beautiful purple flowers
Planting/Harvesting Notes
- Plant after all danger of frost as passed
- Plant in a sunny location with well drained soil
- Companion plant with tomatoes, cabbage, strawberries and squash, to help reduce tomato hornworm and cabbage worm damage.
- Borage will self sow if the plant’s flowers are allowed to mature fully. If you deadhead the flowers before this, the plant will continue to grow
Seed Saving
Once the borage flowers, there will be large seeds that develop where the flower was. These seeds will easily fall to the ground once they turn brown and dry. To easily collect the seed, tie a large organza bag around the stem of the flowers once the blooms die back. This way the seeds will fall into the organza bag and you will be able to save them for next year. Be sure they are dry before storing in a labeled paper envelope.
