Little Dorrit Sunflower (Helianthus annuus)

If you love sunflowers but don’t have the space for tall sunflower stalks, this is a great choice. This plant only gets about 2 feet tall and hosts a single mini sunflower head on the top of the stalk. The sunflower has the traditional yellow petals with brown/black centers. The heads are proportional to the stalk that it sits on, giving it a super cute appearance.

Planting/Harvesting Notes

  • Plant after all danger of frost has passed.
  • Plant in well drained soil in full sun as the heads will require a lot of sun for good growth.
  • Leave 18 inches between plants to allow the plants to spread
  • Remove plants once flowers have died off as these plants will not flower more than once.

Choose a spot in your yard that gets at least 6 hours of sun a day. Dig a hole twice as wide and as deep as the container. Then carefully remove the flower from the pot. Alternatively pot in at least a half gallon/6 inch diameter pot. Place the flower in the hole and fill the hole. Water the soil well to help it settle around the roots.
